CMA AAMA: Medical Assistant Program Overview at RRCC
The Medical Assisting Program at Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) offers an excellent pathway into the dynamic Colorado healthcare field.
Located at the state-of-the-art Arvada Campus (10280 W 55th Ave), the program has been accredited by CAAHEP since 1999, ensuring a high standard of educational quality.
Program Options and Awards
RRCC offers two distinct awards:
- A 28-credit Medical Assisting Certificate
- A comprehensive 61-credit Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree
Graduates of both programs are eligible to sit for the national certification exam through the AAMA to become Certified Medical Assistants (CMA).
Curriculum and Career Mobility
Core coursework includes Comprehensive Medical Terminology (HPR 1040) and Medical Assisting Clinical Skills (MAP 2040), culminating in a crucial 225-hour Medical Assistant Internship (MAP 1083).
Unique to the Arvada campus are interprofessional education (IPE) opportunities alongside Physician Assistant students. Students can also pursue stacked certificates in Phlebotomy (leading to the Registered Phlebotomy Technician or RPT National Certification Exam) and Medical Office Administration. The AAS degree further prepares graduates for specialization, such as Radiologic Technology, ensuring strong career mobility in the Denver metro area.
