CMA AAMA: Medical Assistant Program Overview at NTC
Northwood Tech’s Medical Assistant Technical Diploma is a dynamic, one-year, 32-credit program designed to prepare competent, entry-level healthcare professionals. This program is available across Northwestern Wisconsin at the Ashland, New Richmond, Rice Lake, and Superior campuses. It features a convenient hybrid schedule, meaning students are only required to be on campus two or three days a week, with the rest of the coursework completed online. This setup offers excellent accessibility for students throughout the region.
Curriculum and Hands-On Experience
The comprehensive curriculum covers a complex body of knowledge, focusing on both administrative duties (such as record-keeping and insurance handling) and essential clinical skills (like taking vital signs, giving injections, and assisting with minor surgery). Key coursework includes Human Body in Health and Disease and a required six-week (160-216 hour) Medical Assistant Practicum. This practicum provides vital, hands-on experience under trained mentors in an ambulatory setting.
Career Pathway and Outcomes
Program graduates are highly sought after. According to the 2022-2023 survey, 100 percent of graduates were employed within six months. Students are automatically placed on a career pathway, earning a Patient Service Specialist diploma embedded within the Medical Assisting program. Northwood Tech’s commitment to practical training and exceptional AAMA pass rates ensures graduates are ready for immediate employment as medical assistants, clinical assistants, or phlebotomists.
Program Cost
The estimated total tuition for the 2025-2026 academic year is $5,616, plus $300 for tools and supplies.
