CMA AAMA: Medical Assistant Program Overview at LTC
The Medical Assisting Associate of Applied Science (AAS) program at Lanier Technical College has historically offered a strong pathway for students seeking employment in today’s medical offices. The program maintained an excellent five-year student retention average of 95.5% (2019-2023).
However, please note that due to upcoming institutional changes, the college is currently not accepting new applications for this AAS degree option.
Program Structure and Requirements
- The comprehensive curriculum requires 62 total credit hours.
- This includes General Education requirements (such as Introductory Psychology and Composition & Rhetoric) along with 47 hours of Program-Specific Core training.
- Core subjects cover Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, Pharmacology/Med Office, and hands-on training in Medical Assisting Skills I and II.
- The capstone requirement is the MAST 1170 Medical Assisting Externship, an essential supervised clinical rotation for gaining practical experience.
- Students should budget approximately $100 for mandatory requirements, including a background check and setting up an Acemapp account for externship approval.
