CMA AAMA: Medical Assistant Program Overview at ECC

The Medical Assistant (MA/MDA) Program at East Central College (ECC) is a robust and flexible path into a rewarding healthcare career, serving the Union and Rolla communities in Missouri. Since gaining full accreditation from CAAHEP in 2015, ECC has offered students two pathways: a specialized Certificate or a complete Associate Degree, ensuring maximum flexibility. To accommodate diverse schedules, the program offers a traditional day option in Union and a convenient evening option at the Rolla site.

Comprehensive Curriculum & Training

The curriculum is expertly designed to train competent, entry-level professionals across all three learning domains: cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior). Students pursuing the certificate must complete required courses, totaling 24 credit hours, including Clinical Procedures (MDA 113), Medical Laboratory Procedures (MDA 213), and Medical Ethics (MDA 121). All certificate coursework culminates in a crucial Clinical Externship.

Students learn essential job tasks such as: managing patient files, coordinating appointments, taking vital signs, assisting with injections and examinations, and preparing lab tests.
