CMA AAMA: Medical Assistant Program Overview at BC
The Medical Assisting Certificate program at Belmont College, located in St. Clairsville, Ohio, offers specialized, accredited training for high-demand roles in ambulatory care settings. Continuously recognized since May 13, 1993, this program develops professionals who are skilled in both clinical and administrative functions essential for modern healthcare practices.
Program Focus and Career Preparation
Students gain mastery over essential functions, including scheduling, basic medical coding and billing, recording vital signs, administering medications, and performing ECGs and CLIA-waived testing. A critical element of the curriculum is the 160-hour practicum experience completed at a local healthcare facility, which helps solidify practical knowledge and collaboration skills. Given the high demand for preventative care, graduates enjoy excellent career opportunities in hospitals, clinics, and physician offices across the region.
Clinical Requirements and Certification Eligibility
To ensure clinical readiness, the program has several unique requirements that students must meet:
- Students must submit a required 10-panel urine drug test by December 1st.
- Specific black, logo-embroidered uniforms must be purchased from Studio Scrubs in Wheeling, West Virginia. Note: The uniform cost is billed directly to the student account upon ordering.
Upon successful completion of the certificate program, graduates are eligible to sit for national certification exams, specifically the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) examinations.
